Club meeting - June

The next Club meeting will be at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville Street, this Sunday 26 June, commencing promptly at 7.00 p.m.  The collectable theme will be Local Pottery, and the bottle theme will also be Local Pottery. As usual there will be New Finds. Door charge is $3 per person, and there will be a $1 raffle. Just a reminder about the grocery raffle for the local show. Items for this would be appreciated. Contributions to forthcoming Club magazines are always eagerly sought. Please send these to Hugh.

Open Day and Annual Show Page Updates

The Open Day will be held on Sun 31st July. It’s hands on and interactive. It’s for young and old. Meet the collectors. Handle and examine antiques and collectables. Bring your favourite collectables for discussion and valuation. Special attractions for young collectors.

The 35th Annual Show will be held on Sat 27th and Sun 28th August. There will be sales tables as well as displays of members collections. Schedule and Entry Forms available for download on Annual Show Page.

Club meeting - May

The next Club meeting is also the Annual General meeting, to be held this Sunday 29 May 2016, commencing 7.00 p.m., at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville Street. There will be no collectable item or bottle of the night, but the meeting will be followed by New Finds and a light supper will be served. Door charge is $3 per person, and there will be a $1 raffle. A reminder about the Club’s 40th anniversary meal at Northbrook on Saturday 25 June. The cost is $30 per head. Please note, this will be BYO. A Club magazine will be distributed on Sunday.

Club meeting - April

The next Club meeting will be at the Philatelic Centre,67 Mandeville Street, this Sunday 24 April, commencing promptly at 7.00 p.m.  The collectable theme will be Catalogues, and the bottle theme will be Coloured Glass bottles.  There will also be New Finds. Door charge is $3 per person, and there will be a $1 raffle. Contributions to forthcoming Club magazines are always eagerly sought. Please send these to Hugh. The cut-off date for items for the next magazine is 15 May. You can also place an advert in the magazine’s  Trading Post pages, either for Items Wanted to Buy or To Sell.

Club meeting - January

The first Club meeting in 2016 will be at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville Street, this Sunday 31 January, commencing 7.00 p.m. The collectable theme will be holiday-related collectables and the bottle theme will be Hamilton/Torpedo bottles. There will also be New Finds. Door charge is $3 per person, and there will be a $1 raffle. You are invited to contribute to the February Club magazine. Early club newsletters or magazines are being scanned and added to the members only area of this website. So far we have added the very first one from Sept 1976 as well as April 1977, April 1978, April and Sept 1979 and June 1980.

Club meeting/barbecue - November

This year’s final Club meeting/barbecue will be at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville Street, this Sunday 29 November, commencing 6.00 p.m. Instead of themed Bottles or Collectables this month, you are invited to bring a Mystery Object. Door charge is $3 per person, and there will be a $1 raffle as usual. Members with a last name beginning A - M are asked to bring a salad, while those with a last name beginning N - Z are requested to bring a dessert. Please supply your own cutlery, plates, cups and liquid refreshments. The Club will provide barbecued meats.

Museum collection going online

Usually only a small proportion of a museum's collection is on display at any one time, but soon people from around he world will have access to more than 100,000 items from the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum. The Christchurch City Library is an excellent source of information about the history of Christchurch, e.g. early Christchurch, foundations, famous men, women, buildings and places, local history fact files and provides many other links to historical data on Christchurch.
