Samuel Parnell was a carpenter, in 1840 was the first man to get an 8-hour day and 40 hour working week in Wellington NZ. The first Labour day was celebrated in NZ on 28 October 1890 (129 Yrs. ago) when several thousand trade union members and supporters attended parades in the main centres, Government employees were given the day off to attend the parades. This weekend coincides with the Long Labour weekend break so many of the collectors will be heading to the holiday destinations getting to watch the rugby etc. I know many will be away enjoying the long weekend with family or friends so travel safe and please pencil in the following events to your diary for our end of year celebrations.
There will be Raffle Tickets $1 on sale so bring some extra coins.
